Clones,

Help?

I am thinking about getting a 5B/5T clone,

Main reason i am not willing to spend the amount HPI put on there products,

And i can get a much better car for cheaper, Or so i belive,

Links,

Engage RC Clones

KM Clones

I am not going to link to every model as there a far to many but you get the picture once you have had a look at the links,

First hurdle is choice,

First thing to rule out though is the RTR Clones, Dont want the crappy shocks or diff from a RTR Model end of,

Other then that i am pretty open,

I am not sure on alloy as could just see some nice bends rather then snapping,

But the towers and braces are something i would do anyway,

Would like 2.4 radio tbh as just makes things easier,

Only driven a 26CC and its has plenty of power for me even at stock settings, Are the bigger engines worth it? I dont mean speed wise but reliabilty as so forth? Dont want it on its back wheels all the time and dont want it smashing gears/driveshafts if its to much,

Anything they really need from the off?

Any of the models jump out at you as better then others or good value?

Think that is all for the moment,

Cheers,

Phil.

Phill, if you go for the ultimate km baja, its comes with 6mm shocks 29cc, 2.4ghz, ally diff and tuned pipe plus extras, so basically a hopped up ss and isn't purple lol for the money its fantastic

clicky

PostSubject: Re: Clones   Fri Jul 16, 2010 11:40 pm

For me, there is not contest really

An if I had some cash it would go on a clone no doubt about it

YES they will break ............. BUT so does the HPI, an with the savings you make over the Initial HPI cost, I cant see a worry

In my eyes there are several out there to choose from, an the clones have also come on massively in the strength of their parts

DO you want a 5B or a 5T ........... as there are several to choose from

for my money it would be the 5T, CLONE

An again there are several to choose from

Theses days they have not only cloned the HPI Model in the first place
They have also no cloned nearly all of the MUST HAVE hop-ups

So the likes of

DARKSOUL
TGN
PROLINE
RPM
TURTLE
GH
INTEGY
JETPRO
DDM
YAMADUDE
HBZ

Have all now been cloned, so these UPGRADE parts for many HPI owners, now come as STANDARD on many of these clone models

In this picture alone your looking at

COPY TURTLE REAR BRACE
COPY DDM DOMINATOR PIPE
COPY HBZ STEEL ROLL CAGE
COPY GH ALLOY SHOCK TOWERS
COPY GH UPPER AN LOWER ALLOY ARMS
COPY HPI SS PARTS
COPY INNER AN OUTER DARKSOUL ALLOY BEADLOCKS

An this is their 1/5 King Motor, KM3.0 GAS PETROL BAJA 23/26/29cc, ALLOY UPGRADE RTR

on this next model

Your looking at

COPY PROLINE DESPERADO WHEELS
COPY PROLINE BOW-TIE TIRES
COPY RPM ARMS
COPY TURTLE FRONT AN REAR SHOCK BRACES (FRONT INCLUDING THE TOWER)
COPY INTEGY PIGGY BACK SHOCKS
COPY INTEGY FRONT AN REAR SHOCK TOWER SUPPORTS
COPY INTEGY SPARK PLUG COVER
COPY HBZ ROLLCAGE
COPY X-CAN or COPY JETPRO PIPE
COPY TGN AIR FILTER
COPY HPI SS PARTS
COPY YAMADUDE LINKAGE

An this is THIS model 1/5 Engage Hobby, Nylon Upgrade 30.5 cc Baja, (2.4G) RTR

An its the same with the 5T versions they do also

So for me, you certainly get your moneys worth
An you get stuff that people save an spend a lot to get added to their BAJAs, YES we know its not got the BRANDNAMEs

But you get the same stuff, for a LOT less money

Its really down to you to which you want

ALLOY
or
PLASTIC

There are cases for both

But both win, due to the fact if you buy these, an do break ANYTHING, you can very easily grab a part from anywhere

Hell they sell part to fit the Hpi Baja in most any shop now, I think even TESCO have an Isle rofl

Point is, If an WHEN you break something, Exactly the same as ALL the HPI Baja boys, you can get replacment parts easily an cheaply
But you start off well above the grade of a NORMAL RTR or even SS Hpi Baja

For a LOT LESS money

So while you DONT have the BRAND NAME image
You STILL get the full range of available HOP-UPS
An a LOT are already on it

Think it has to be a 5T,

Had two 5B SS so want the 5T,

Got this email back from RC Modelz,

"The KM T1000 should be here in august but not in alloy (price to be confirmed), to have alloy you would need to buy the KM2.0 and a convertion kit to make it a T1000 or buy the T1000 then buy the alloy upgrades.
We should also have more KM2.0 in august also and there is currently no saving on the cars this will be a feature that will be added at a later stage."

Think it may be a order from US,

5T Link

Which one would people go for?

Best value and spec wise ETC,

Cheers,

Phil.

This one in the orange alloy version (although I would de-anodise it anyway)

1/5 RC King Motor, Baja T1000 V2, 29 30.5 cc, (2.4G) RTR

Because it has the alloy bits your fancying, an the KM is the best of the clones

But my main choice would this

1/5 RC Engage Hobby Baja T1000 With Nylon Part, Alloy RIM, 30.5 cc, (2.4G) RTR

Seems to have a nice few hop-ups, an you could dye the arms (although i doubt you would you lazy ass lol)
an has the cool alloy wheels

But for a straight forward SS 5T

There are two

1/5 RC King Motor, KM Baja T1000, 29cc, HPI 5T Compatible, 2.4Ghz option

1/5 RC Engage Hobby, Baja Terminator, 29cc, RTR, Fully Compatible with HPI 5T KM

An for the money, they are ALL fantastic

rofl

Your right i would not die the parts, Is the SS/Clone orange shocks the 6MM ones are are they only on that one? Same with the Driveshafts,

I am liking the bottom two,

Is the diffrence just the pipe?

Is the brace for shock towers etc the same?

I am not sure on what parts the 5T Changes for bumper and body even after looking at the pictures i am not sure on where everything mounts,

Is there anything i really need to do from the box?

Yeah GET IT OUT ............ An DRIVE IT rofl rofl

The bottom two do look pretty much the same, an i think the pipe is about the only real difference
The Engage one comes with the Clone JETPRO pipe
The KM one comes with a Clone SS pipe (an the HPI SS pipe is PANTS)

The shocks are the 6mm SS types
On the KM, They say they are the SS versions
But the shocks on the Engage look like they are too

Towers an braces are BOTH the 5T SS type
But I would get those swapped to something stronger, unless your going for one of the ones with the HOP-UPS on

There are quite a few changes from the 5B to the 5T
An most you wont notice, but they have all the side guards
Pull start guard
Roof guard / shell support
An then the front an rear bumpers, an body mount towers

CONVERT YOUR 5B to 5T

Cost to do this using HPI parts ............ £498.36

Can get the conversion with body for $230 using clone parts,

I thought the SS pipe was the one coming out the back under the spoiler?

The engage one looks like a Stock can just two outlets or is that just me? There is another pipe pictured but i think it looks shocking and would just get destroyed,

Love the KM White and Blue Shell TBH as well and saves a load of paint,

Clone Towers and Braces?

RC Modelz have them in and a very well priced,

Not sure on the engage site,

What parts would i need?

Only thing i did to my SS was the shock braces not the towers or anything and there seams to be a million diffrent options for them,

Thats the SS pipe ......... well thats the CLONE version of it

I like the Black KM

Not sure on clone towers an braces, But most that have Stock SS stuff do upgrade it at some point
So I would think its the same for the clone

Rcmodelz Have nearly all the parts Inc the ones from the ALLOY upgraded KM

So getting stuff wont be hard

An there are more options for the BAJA than Ive had hot dinners .......... an thats a LOT tease tease

So its all down to your choice an your money

I would go for the KM T1000 from Rcmodelz, an avoid any Import worry's, just get them to order you one in GOOD

By all means wait. Better is always just ahead - unless you miss it! The pit is waiting....... TWSS block lol,
Any particular reason for the baja choice? I'm sure if you can convince Hoss or Yanto for a spell or visit us at Bevercotes for a ftx session you could be tempted else where??

Don't limit yourself, you have the opportunity to try a few models, then make an informed decision.

Another good thing is, the 'PIT' is about 20mins from his house, so totally worth the visit an try some other stuff GOOD

it's all mail order pretty much anyway so it's all available. The amount of hop ups for the baja is enviable but necessary?

Drop me a pm Phil if you want a go with the FTX down at the pit sometime. I'm probably there next weekend

I have had 2 5b SS so know how good they are,

And would like something for comeback so need to know what to do so can get it on order,

FTX and MCD are tempting but strength and reliability are worries with them,

To many choices :(

Having owned a Sheng Qi clone hopped up to a decent level I'm of the opinion that my ftx is much stronger and certainly so far I've actually broke nothing on it. The rolls it has had I'm pretty sure I'd have broken more parts on the baja clone.

I was spending most months on the baja to repair it. Whether this was down to being a Sheng Qi or my ownership I don't know.

My offer still stands mate :)

Missed these post as page never updated,

Work at the weekend so that puts weekend bashers out for me,

Would not mind trying a MCD and FTX but its sorting it out and still leaving time to sort out getting one and getting it ready in time,

I know the HPI's a bit so first thing i jumped to,

Dont want to go Nitro again as been there/done that so many times before and would not trust my self with the Lipos needed for the good Brushless stuff there now is,

So went back to Petrol,

I'm afraid I'd have to disagree there Phil......

Mine suffered a runaway at the beach bash, and went W.O.T into one of those sea barriers ( sodding big lump of concrete )

I broke the front bumper

Everyone seams to report they go well and are good but from watching them racing and the odd few laps round a track i have seen nothing but trouble,

Just me or not i dont know,

Still got a lot of thinking to do TBH,

Really dont know what to do know,

I can understand that fella wink

Problem is, some people got them, ragged them around something chronic, generally behaved stupidly and broke them, and then blamed the model...

I've always been after one, and having got one, I know I made the right choice GOOD

But, we're all different, and have different needs ( ooer laugh )

Love that but not willing to spend £1000 on the car,

Want to put some money towards other things and spending £1000 on that will just stop that in it's tracks,

The clone 5T from the uk is around £650-£700 RC Modelz say,

So that would be a order from Engage,

So many choices,

I hear ya buddy. But Merlin's is everything you would want to do to a Punisher, so in the end you end up spending that anyhows.

Plus, you can flog the alloy parts for change =)

Too many choices..LOL.

That's where I'd put it if I had a grand.
